Tonight, we’re hosting a special guest: Jean-Michel Morel of the Kabaj winery. We’ve worked with his wines for so many years that Jean, and the wines he makes, feel like old friends hailing from a distant land: we’re always gratified to have them in the shop for the fleeing moments they’re available. They have a lot to tell us, but we never feel we get to spend quite enough time with them. Jean is starting with two pét-nats: one is a dry, aromatic, malvazija-based wine; the other is either a dark rose or light red (depending on your inclination) pinot noir. To follow, a short-macerated orange wine of pinot gris, and to finish, another, orange wine with longer-maceration, made from rebula (aka ribolla gialla, across the border in Italy). |
