This afternoon we have five natural winemakers in the shop to pour out their souls to us and tell us how to make sense of it all. We have three winemakers from the new world, including two OG California natural winemakers: Gideon Bienstock of Clos Saron, and Darek Trowbridge with wine from old vines that have been in the family for three generations, as well as one not-so-OG winemaker, William Allen of Two Shepherds, with his orange wine of trousseau. And then from the old world three growers who make wine that I know many of my customers dig, as we have a difficult time keeping them in stock: orange wines from the northwest of Sicily (Vincenzo Angileri, Viteadovest), nervy, earthy wines from the Tuscan coast (Francesco Pascucci, Ampelaia), and smoky, vibrant cesanese from the volcanic terroir of Lazio (Daniele Proietti, Abbia Nòva). |
