For our final tasting of the year, we’re pouring five different expressions of sparkling wine for your tasting and holiday partying pleasure. From the Loire, two pét-nats: the Mosse “Moussamoussettes,” IYKYK, contains a goodly amount of that magical medieval grape, pineau d’aunis, while the Vaillant is a mix mostly of grolleau gris and chenin. A dry Lambrusco rosé with a hypnotic, iridescent light ruby hue that pairs well with nearly anything (ok, within reason) you might throw at it, it too is a pét-nat though in Modena, they refer to this style of pre-industrial Lambrusco in which refermentation happens spontaneously in the bottle as, well, Lambrusco. Then to finish, two méthode traditionnelle wines, one from Champagne, the homeland of this way of making fizzy wine, the other from northern California. |
